Ant Problems in Northwich, Middlewich and Weaverham.
March 30, 2010
Flying ants are the dread of many homes in summer leaving many people to fear the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they know the summer will herald
Only the unluck people who have suffered it will appreciate the true nature of flying ants in their houses.
Having an infestation of plain old wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the situation can become unthinkable.
Ants will form colonies in the sub-floor areas and in the wall cavities of our houses and these colonies will live for many years if left untreated and become progressively more persistent each year.
Our houses are warm and dry and make the ideal places for a growing ant colony; even solid hard floor is not a problem to ants.
Our house heating systems maintains their metabolism even in the winter months and my earliest ant job was on my birthday, in January!
Ants prefer a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which produce more ant infestations than most, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant spots.
Unfortunately it is during their mating time that they are most troublesome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this often is pretty often around the middle of July.
Ants mate on the wing and around mid-summer the colony releases winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate whilst flying. Many thousands of these winged ants are released per colony and nests tend to synchronise their production in order to mate with ants from neighbouring.
Often this process starts after a couple of days of hot, dry weather and will usually continue for about acouple of weeks although smaller releases will extend throughout most of June, July & August.
Unfortunately when the nest is under the floor of the house the results can be devastating, literally thousands of flying are produced into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they go towards the light.
This can be extremely upsetting for some people leading to extreme emotional trauma to the degree that people learn to fear the summertime and have actually left their homes to escape the plague of ants which they know will come each summer.
The poor summers of the last three years have meant that ant problems were reduced on previous years but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 could possibly be a particularly good year for them.
Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with potions from hardware shops etc but mostly these efforts do not work as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the nest itself, hidden away safely in the cavity wall or under the floor.
Fortunately for many people the answer.
At Harrier Pest Control and Prevention (subject to site survey) we are able to remedy this problem and issue an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The process which is carried out mainly from the outside of the home, is totally safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an uncrossable barrier through which the ants cannot go and together with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will gradually bring the ant colony to its end.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter stay open so it is simply a matter of topping up the cavity walls every three years to extend the period of the guarantee in 3 year periods.
This procedure is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done all year round.
As a very limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the normalstandard price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
